Mum's Day

Mostly pictures but a few words of explanation. We had brunch in a tiny town of Salida on Sunday. It is deep in the area that burned in the Four Mile Canyon Fire a few years ago. At that time it was the most destructive fire in CO. Unfortunately Waldo Canyon, in Colorado Springs surpassed that last summer. The first two pictures are in Salida and you can see how close the flames came to town. I am standing in front of the church taking the second shot.

The next few shots are from continuing up the road to Gold Hill. It took me over two years to drive through this area - I just couldn't deal with the devastation. As you can see, things don't recover quickly here and the fires don't decimate everything but it jumps around. Two homes side by side, one can be gone and the other is still standing. Karma?

Gold Hill is another town they worked very hard to save. A wonderful spot of history.
