Cats and Dogs Revisited

As I said, cats can become dogs and dogs can become cats, and that is exactly what Mick and I did yesterday. He took me to my radiation and we went out to breakfast and did a couple errands. He seemed OK to me but asked if I felt alright to drive up the hill to go home. That should have been a red flag but I just said sure and did it.

As the day went on he said he was feeling dizzy and nauseous, so we both rested and read. About four he decided to take a shower and next thing I knew he was doing the chemo thing - vomiting - a lot. He said he wanted to go to the ER (another red flag), for one who avoids Doctors. I took him down the hill, the long, very twisty turny hill, bucket in lap, to Urgent Care. I thought he would be triaged faster than in the ER and I was right - they took him in right away. After much testing, 2 liters of fluids and two doses of Zofran for the nausea, they didn't find anything much but wanted to do an MRI of his head just to make sure he wasn't having a stroke or aneurysm (scary red flags). I told him if it was 20 years ago I would have said "Cowboy up buddy" but since he is so OLD now lots can happen that we need to check closer.

Turns out the MRI was perfect and he has something called Proximal Positional Vertigo. More drugs for the dizziness and nausea and we had to head up the hill again. He was so much better when we left that he didn't keep the bucket in his lap and since it was after 10:30 I could cut many of the turns short by driving on the wrong side of the road and slowly - up the hill. He said I did a good job and so did he till we got in the door and he had to grab the bucket again. I hate motion sickness.

Not the healthy, smiley face I saw yesterday.
So I am now the dog and he is the cat. Sleeping all day and keeping food down - just don't move quickly or shake your head please.

  1. What causes the sudden onset of this vertifo? Hope you are both feeling well by now. Take care.
