I went to the MOST meaningful internment today for my neighbor Marie. We gathered at her house while her horses and donkey were nibbling hay out of the back of her truck. Marie was also in the bed of the truck waiting for her last ride. When the time was right the truck was driven up her field to the hole that was dug for her this morning. The community gathered with her family of five siblings to share memories, songs and prayers. The pine box coffin was removed from the bed and brought to the grave, secured with roping ropes and lowered into the grave. We all then filled the grave with the soil. This was so real, not controlled by the funeral director. This is the way it is meant to be. We have life for ever so long and then our friends must say good-by. No glitz or glamour cause it isn't glamour - it is what happens. I have never felt so a part of a real community (even tho I didn't know many of these people) but we were there for the same reason. Marie was a part of our world and we are going to miss her. For those of you who thought " Why is she leaving here for the wild west - I knew for sure today- community". I have never had this feeling living in the east but this has been a shocking, true honest and service death.
My love goes out to Marie's family, who have suffered too many major losses in the last six months. Marie's time with us is up but she will never leave us unless we allow her to. I thank her for getting us together (who know when we would have met if she was still here) I will treasure each of you Massachusettsites and hope you still visit the Diamond M Ranch
