Sunday as I was coming up the hill from Boulder's Open Studios, I watched an amazing sunset.
There was a beautiful glow off the twin sisters and a spectacular red in the sky when I looked west.
As I drove further down the road I kept thinking about the beautiful view I just witnessed and it didn't feel right. Then I realized we had another fire going and that was the plume from the mountain and a cloud of smoke above it.
This one is in Fraser and Winter Park area on the other side of the divide. It poses no threat to us but there are thousands of dead lodge pole pines in the area. It is under control now.
Here are a couple of shots of fire mitigation going on down the road from us.
The dead wood/trees are gathered from the forest and piled high. In the winter when the threat of fires is reduced these piles will be burned. The theory is that the cleaner the floor and fewer dead trees the chance of fires is reduced. There are also laws about clearing the land around your house. Keep the grass trimmed and live trees away from the house within a certain distance and get rid of dead trees. People are respecting these laws a lot more after seeing the destruction from the Four Mile Canyon fire.
WOW
ReplyDeleteYou sure are into the remodeling!
Interesting race against the weather I'm sure. Looks like it will be open and airy when it is done.
