OMG Road and the Mining Country

If you haven't guessed OMG really and literally stands for oh my God. It travels up Virginia Canyon from Idaho Springs and I 70. It is mostly dirt, on a very steep mountain side and there are no guard rails.

You can see a dark line almost in the center of the picture and that is I 70 - the main road from Denver to the mountains. Coming towards you there are a number of tan lines which is the OMG road and at this point we are about 3 miles up the mountain side. A fun ride! This is old mining territory and the folks who lived here in those times had to be real tough cookies!

Some mining remnants and the tan soil is the tailings from the mines. You can see them scattered around the hillside.
