What a Walk

The tails of an incredible "walk" to Black Lake and almost to Blue Lake In Rocky Mountain National Park on Thursday. I went with a group of folks (mostly women) who have been doing Thursday hikes for 14 years. They were obviously stronger and faster than me but as the oldest (I think) I held my own and did it.

This is my friend Diane who was my ski instructor this winter and she is also my neighbor.

Mills Lake, the first one we came to.

Very special orchids or lilies (Diane wasn't sure which).

We saw a number of elk on their summer vacation. I don't think they were "our elk". Here we have mom, a spike and two babies.

Waterfalls from melting snow trying to fill Black Lake but the water just keeps rolling down the mountain.

A little peak of blue while we had lunch at Black Lake.

Our group checking out the blue sky, or are they looking at the black clouds, at our lunch spot.
Flowers continually getting drinks from the mountain stream.

On the way to Blue Lake but we turned around because the afternoon storms were closing in on us.

A shy marmot we passed on the way down.

It was an amazing climb - 11 of us walked 11 miles to an altitude of 11,400 (I don't think any of those numbers were planned) in about 5 hours. I am still tired.
