Yet another wet walk in paradise. Everyone is saying this weather is so strange. We had about a half hour of sun today but it is gone again.

The past pasque flowers hold the rain so well. Kind of like my pants and shoes

and the ponderosas.

How can big bears survive on  berries and insects? They must have an amazing metabolism. The pictures above and below are of a stump we found on a walk where a bear had recently ripped it apart to get at the insects. You can see the ground was also churned up around it. Trying to get the escapees, I guess.

This was a nearby log and you can see some light colored horizontal gouges in the wood - bear claw marks.
Last nature lesson of the day. The aspen above has some bites taken out of the bark by a passing elk. If you blow it up you van see teeth marks. I was told they did this when the snow was too deep to get to the ground but that wasn't the case this winter. Guess they needed an aspen treat.
