Well, my ski instructor had invited me to join her Thursday hiking group and early in the season it was just Diane and I doing some easy hikes. I had missed a few weeks because I was traveling but today I joined a group of five to hike Gregory canyon and on to above the flatirons (if you know Boulder you know the big flat rocks that sit high above the city). These are some shots I took as we went up (3200 vertical feet in 3 miles). I call that steep. The green grass is Chautauqua Park which is a bit below where we started and I am looking east/south east beyond Boulder.
Here we are looking north east.
This is a scree field. Scree (this might be considered talus) is lose rock that is formed when water enters large rocks, freezes and then breaks the rock apart. Not easy for walking.
Here we are at the summit looking out over Boulder,
In this picture you can see Denver if you look VERY closely in the middle (see the lines of tall buildings?) of the photo. It reminded me of Wachusett (or Anne's house) on a good day when you can see Boston.
I did this in my five fingers! I think these kinds of hikes are a bit too much (or nor enough - protection) for these shoes. My poor feet are crying tonight as they were on the way down. Best to save them for the trails behind the house and dirt roads, I think!
