Seasonal Changes

One of Orion's favorite treats when we go out for a walk is a ready supply of snowsicles. I wonder if he realized that the pickings are getting slimmer and soon will be nonexistent (I hope).

It is virtually impossible to cross the pasture in the back without tripping and getting your feet wet. The dark spots are puddles and these hummocks are also filled with leftover horse and elk scat. Makes for interesting walking. Oh, then there are the "bad dogs" that sometimes come barking after us while we are crossing....

I hope the ducks stay here for a while in the virnal pool - or do they eat peepers. Is it getting more quiet there?

  1. Nice ducks! I walked by there the other day, and heard the frogs. I think that they're Western Chorus Frogs (http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Pseudacris_triseriata.html), and ducks aren't listed among their predators!

What does Orion think of the ducks? I better not take my field lab anywhere near them :)

  2. He was curious about them the first day we saw them but then it snowed, and snowed and snowed and he seems to have forgotten about them.
I messed with the font on my page now and it has gotten smaller and I can't seem to get it back to a good size. Any ideas?
