My "Job"

The town on Nederland is a very small town with limited resources so it is run to a large part by volunteers. They are always looking for folks to help out. My first experience volunteering was to peel 100 lbs. of potatoes (not alone) for the free town Thanksgiving dinner. Once you are tapped they have your number - Carousel, Museum, Visitor's Center, Community Center, Movies, Frozen Dead Guy are a few that have requested my help. I have found it a wonderful way to get to meet people and truly become a part of our community.

My regular job is to greet and track folks who come to the fitness center in the Community Center - Worcester Fitness its not but then I'm not in Worcester.

This is inside the office - where I sit. Guess which chair is mine and note the CC Lowell bag to the left of the ball. I advertise for you all the time Bill.

Most of the equipment is hand-me-down but very sufficient. Traffic is light during my shift on Tuesday 11-2. I used to get lots of people in on Thursday evenings because they have drop in basketball in the gym (high school kids with hands full of change for their $3 drop-in-fee). There is also a cardio deck overlooking the gym.

The Community Center used to be the elementary school till the roof collapsed in a snow storm. Then, the kids got a new school and the community got a Leeds certified center for meetings, movies, exercise, concerts, and art exhibits. I will be part of this quarter's exhibit which is open to the whole community. I'm proud of my new little town and am glad to feel a real part of a community.

  1. FDG Days is a fun party in March to releive cabin fever and raise money to keep grandpa cold. I have a film back east that explains it all. See if you can make the DAMP dinner to view it or better yet, come out in March to experience it.
