From a Pile of Rocks

Yesterday we went for a dog walk/hike with a friend for the first time. Diane was my ski instructor and neighbor. Before we left I had my breakfast on the deck and wondered if I should wear shorts or long pants. The long pants won just because I thought we might be in the shade a lot.

We drove up Magnolia a couple miles to the Front Range trail head for our adventure. After following the dirt road for a while, Diane asked if I would be interested in climbing up to the top of a rock pile to our East. That was the same rock pile Tucker wanted to ascent when he first arrived but we never found a trail - basically because there isn't a trail! We had to bush whack and at the top there was another fantastic view in all directions - surprise, surprise.

Here we are looking west and the divide and the beige slit in the middle is Barker Reservoir and the town of Nederland. The area in the foreground that looks bare is actually an aspen grove waiting to green up. Note the blue sky, actually the last we will see of it that day.

In the zoom of the reservoir and town you can see the sky looks
a little less friendly and the water quite low.

It is hard to grow in a pile of rocks.

Humm, you can't see the divide anymore (but you can see
Diane's knee on the left).

Guess what folks, that is snow covering them now,

and snow that was moving pretty fast in our direction.
By the time I dropped Diane off we were in light snow

and when I was fixing lunch - we were really in the middle of it.
This morning I woke to complete coverage of about an inch.
Does it ever end?
