Sunset

Just when I thought all the sky drama had left for the winter, this happened...

  1. I have always loved when the sky, inspiration for many great works of art, seems to in fact mirror a painting itself. It is an interesting quandry that goes back to Aristotle, Plato, and the argument about poetry. (Sorry the English major in me is trying to get out -too much science lately.)

So what do you think? Art imitate life or life imitate art? In other words, we can see the beauty of the sunset and try to recreate it or capture it, but once we have seen reproductions of this beauty in photographs or paintings, are we then jaded and restricted to always see a sunset in the way that one would be captured?

  2. I don't think so. Spending so much time in the car with aunt Betty, that was some of our conversation. There were skies out there that if you tried to paint them they would just look too fake. You need the "whole picture" the peripheral vision that a camera doesn't get to truly get it all. No we can never truly capture what nature creates.
